Rental & Purchase Schemes

We have two different schemes to help you with your instrument purchase. A rental scheme, designed primarily for those taking up an instrument and not yet sure whether they will continue with it. And a 0%APR Credit Purchase scheme to help people purchase higher value instruments by spreading the payments out over nine months.

Please note that these schemes only apply to instruments purchased or rented in person from the shop and not through the internet.

Rental Scheme

We have a number of brass, woodwind and stringed instruments available to rent, both new and second-hand. New instruments are the basic entry level models in each category but we are happy to rent any of the second-hand instruments we have in stock. The principal terms of the scheme are set out below:

  • The rental period is three months and will renew automatically for another three months at the end of the period unless terminated.
  • Three-month rental payments are calculated based on 20% of the value of the instrument subject to a minimum of £25.
  • Payment for the three-month rental period is made in advance.
  • The first payment is taken in the shop in cash or by card. Subsequent payments are made by Standing Order.
  • The instrument remains the property of The Duke’s Music

You are able to terminate the rental agreement at any time and purchase the instrument. The price you pay will be the value of the instrument less rental payments made up to a maximum of two payments.

For example, if you rent a Vivace Flute, the value of the instrument is £199 and you will pay £40 for each three-month rental period. If you decide to purchase the instrument within the first rental period the cost of purchase will be £159. If you decide to purchase the instrument within the second rental period or later, you will pay £119.

You may wish to terminate the rental agreement and purchase a different instrument from the shop. For example, you may wish to progress to an intermediate level instrument. In this situation you will receive some credit for the rental payments you have made. No credit is given for the first three-month payment as this covers the servicing and depreciation of the returned instrument. If you have rented the instrument for two three-month periods you will receive credit for one payment. If you have rented the instrument for three or more three-month periods you will receive credit for two payments.

For example, if you have been renting the Vivace flute and decide to purchase a Yamaha YFL-311 flute, you will not receive any credit if you make the purchase within the first three months. If you make the purchase within three to six months you will receive a £40 credit and if you make the purchase after six months you will receive an £80 credit.

0% APR Credit Purchase Scheme

This scheme is designed to assist you in the purchase of higher value instruments. The principal terms are as follows:

  • No interest or other costs are applied to this scheme. The APR is 0%
  • Only available to UK residents aged over 18.
  • You pay 40% of the price of the instrument immediately and then three payments of 20% every three months. A total period of nine months.
  • The first payment is taken in the shop in cash or by card. Subsequent payments are made by Standing Order.
  • You need to sign a credit agreement and provide proof of identity and age.
  • The instrument is your property from the day of purchase.

For example, if you wish to purchase a Yamaha YFL-311 flute for £828 you will pay £331.20 upfront followed by three payments of £165.60 every three months. You will have fully paid for the flute after nine months.
